International Fuel Gas Code
The fuel gas code shall apply to the installation of fuel gas piping systems, fuel gas utilization equipment, gaseous hydrogen systems and related accessories.
A permit is not required for:

Portable heating appliances

Portable cooking or residential clothes drying appliances

Replacement of any part that does not alter approval of equipment or make such equipment unsafe

Heating and cooling distribution piping installed and maintained by the public or municipal utilities
- Portable fuel cell appliances that are not connected to a fixed piping system and are not interconnected to a power grid
