Online Auction
Online Auction
The City of Dublin is selling used vehicles, fitness equipment, computer equipment and other merchandise on an online auction site designed for government agencies, though anyone can bid on the items. The site - www.govdeals.com - is similar to E-Bay and other online auctions, but is used by government entities across the country to sell used, outdated and surplus equipment.
“In the past, the City has sold such merchandise once or twice a year in Dublin at an actual auction,” says Director of Accounting and Auditing Steve Sova. “The online system will allow the City to rid itself of merchandise at any time, rather than just once or twice a year.”
The online auction also eliminates the hassle and cost of storage, and should increase the revenue received for items because it opens the pool of potential buyers to the world. The online auction also demands a lower commission for sales than a live auctioneer.
Often, the buyers are other government agencies seeking to buy used equipment at a lower price than they would pay for new.
Like other online auctions, photos of the items and minimum acceptable bids will be provided by the City. The items must be available online for at least 15 days. Buyers will be responsible for picking up or shipping their goods.
Individuals may find the Dublin merchandise by clicking on the GovDeals link at the top of this page. This will take users directly to Dublin’s merchandise, rather than to the entire GovDeals site.
