Sidewalk Maintenance Program Questions and Answers

When will construction begin?

Construction will begin after Monday, May 18 and is scheduled to continue through this Friday, July 31. It is impossible, however, to determine exactly when construction will start on your sidewalk.

What will happen during construction?

The contractor will begin by removing the old piece of sidewalk, removing any tree roots that may be causing a problem, adding new stone for the base (if necessary,) and pouring a new concrete slab. Once the concrete has cured, the contractor will return to backfill the sidewalk with topsoil and seed.

What will happen during construction?

There may be days when you notice a lot of action, and others you notice very little. Please do not be alarmed if nothing is happening on a particular day. The contractor will be working on several sidewalks throughout Dublin and may not be able to spend all his time on yours. Rest assured that once construction begins on your sidewalk, it will be completed in a timely manner.

What if I have a sprinkler system or underground dog fence near my curb or sidewalk?

If you have a sprinkler system or electric dog fence immediately behind the curb or sidewalk, please notify Scott Sanders at 614-410-4629 as soon as possible. He will notify the contractor of its existence so that extra care can be taken during the curb or sidewalk removal. Should the contractor damage your sprinkler system or dog fence, he will repair it to its original condition as soon as possible. Once construction begins in front of your house please test your dog fence before you let your dog out.

What has the City done to keep dust, debris and noise to a minimum?

Construction projects can create noise, dust or other disruptions. To minimize these problems, the City will restrict hours of construction work. Construction hours are Monday - Friday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The contractor also will clean up debris regularly and restore any damage to pre-construction condition.

How long will I be inconvenienced?

Construction work will start at 7 a.m. and will last for approximately eight hours each day. The contractor has been instructed to pour the new sidewalk within three days after the old sidewalk is removed. Topsoil backfill and seed will be placed within 10 days. Should the sidewalk replacement occur through your driveway, we ask that you allow the new concrete to cure for five days before driving on it.

What responsibility do I have?

The City of Dublin will be paying the entire cost of repairing your sidewalks. There will be no direct cost to you. All we ask, however, is that you water the grass seed and maintain your grass as normal. We also ask that you refrain from applying any marks or graffiti in the fresh concrete. Please do not apply any lawn treatments to the seeded areas for at least 45 days.

What if I need more information?

For more information, such as daily progress of construction, you can call Scott Sanders at 614-410-4629.

Tree Conflicts?

Tree roots that are causing sidewalks to move will be pruned and removed. After removal of the old sidewalk, the City forestry staff records the details on the roots removed, trims the trees and monitors the health of the tree. For questions on trees, please contact Mike Sturtz at 614-410-4700.

Roof Drains?

Roof drains removed during construction will be repaired by the City of Dublin. Deteriorated or clogged drain tile repairs will be the responsibility of the property owner.
