Driver's License

Title Transfer and Auto Tags

Ohio law provides no specific grace period for converting an out-of-state driver's license to an Ohio license. Historically, Ohio courts and police agencies have considered 30 days the maximum time limit.

New Ohio residents who hold a valid driver's license from another state should go to an Ohio Highway Patrol exam station, turn in the out-of-state license and take a vision screening and written test on Ohio traffic laws and signs.

To convert out-of-state license tags to Ohio plates, visit a vehicle inspection station to have your car's vehicle identification number verified. Most car dealers provide this service. Take the inspection number and your out-of-state title to:

Each year Ohio residents are required to register their vehicles. A taxing district is assigned to each registration. The taxing district designation will affect the fees assessed and the funds allocated to the City. Franklin County's taxing district number is 2506. The taxing district number for Union County is 8007. Delaware County's taxing district is 2109.
