Blazer Parkway Water Tower Re-coating Scheduled for mid-April

Blazer Parkway Water Tower

Dublin, OH - The Blazer Parkway water tower, also the location of Washington Township Fire Station 95, will be the next City of Dublin water tower to get a new exterior paint coating. Last summer, the Avery Park water tower received a complete re-coating using a "containment-tenting" process. The Blazer Parkway tower will be re-coated in the same manner using the same contractor – M.K. Painting, Inc.

According to City of Dublin Director of Engineering Paul Hammersmith, PE, this is the first re-coating of the entire exterior of the Blazer Parkway tower since its construction nearly seventeen years ago.

Hammersmith said the city awarded the contract to M.K Painting, Inc. for $532,000. The contractor will use a "containment – tenting" process during the removal of the existing paint surface and during the first primer stages of re-coating.

"We want to assure Dublin residents and the many businesses in the Blazer Parkway vicinity, that they will not be impacted in any way by the blasting material or the paint spray," said Hammersmith. "The tenting will provide a protective shield which will contain the removed paint and blasting material – eliminating over-spray on homes, cars and businesses in the tower area."

Hammersmith said the Washington Township Fire Station 95, that leases the space in the water tower from the City of Dublin, will relocate to 5500 Frantz Rd. (northeast corner of Frantz and Tuttle Roads) during the day and will operate from Station 91 on Shier Rings Road during the overnight hours.

Hammersmith noted one possible inconvenience to nearby residents and corporate residents will be the moderate-level of noise during the blasting and prime coat spraying processes. The tank will be under containment for about four weeks with blasting done in the morning hours and prime coat application in the afternoons. With the containment removed, the final paint coating, including the graphics, will be rolled onto the water tower, not sprayed.
