Mosquito Spraying Scheduled for NE Dublin Monday, August 29 Positive West Nile Virus Found in Traps
Dublin, OH - Mosquito traps set weekly throughout Franklin County found positive West Nile Virus in northeast Dublin. As a result of this positive finding, the Franklin County Public Health will be spraying the northeastern portion of Dublin Monday, August 29 (weather permitting) at 8:45 p.m.
The area is north of I-270 to the northern Dublin corporation limit and east of Riverside Drive to Sawmill Road. Map of the area to be sprayed can be seen below.
"It is not uncommon to find positive West Nile Virus in traps this time of year in Central Ohio," said City of Dublin Director of Streets and Utilities Ron Burns. "The main thing residents should do is protect themselves by wearing insect repellent containing DEET and stay indoors at dawn and dusk – when mosquitoes are most active."
Residents are encouraged to visit the websites often for spray maps and other mosquito information including information on West Nile Virus, precautions to take during the scheduled spray time and products containing DEET.
For the safety of residents and for the safety of their operators, Franklin County Public Health advises to never approach or walk up to a spray truck.
If you are in your car, do not follow a spray truck when it is operating. If you are in a vehicle, raise the windows, turn on the air conditioning (on recirculation mode), and wait for the truck to pass or find an alternate route. Be advised that you may also want to remain indoors with the windows closed when spraying is taking place (if possible).
Typically, windows can be reopened within 30 minutes after the trucks have passed.
