Wounded officer to speak at Police Memorial Service
The Dublin Division of Police will host the annual Police Memorial Service at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 9 at the Justice Center, 6565 Commerce Parkway.
The service in honor of local area law enforcement officers who have given their lives in the line of duty will feature guest speaker Eric Brill. Brill was a Whitehall Police Officer shot in the line of duty, leaving him blind in one eye and ending his law enforcement career.
“Honoring officers is a tradition which goes back to the beginnings of our history,” said Chief Heinz von Eckartsberg. “Dublin believes it is important members of our profession and the community take time to honor the personal sacrifices these officers have made.”
The service is held in conjunction with National Police Memorial Week, established in 1962 when President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation dedicating one week annually to law enforcement officers.
The service is a reminder for all to pay tribute to the law enforcement officers who have made a sacrifice for the country and to voice appreciation for those who currently serve in the line of duty.
