Although the City of Dublin is a VERY safe place to live, this incident is a reminder to everyone that crime can happen anywhere and at anytime. Residential burglaries involving forced entry are generally not common in Dublin. Most residential burglaries that do occur in Dublin are crimes of opportunity where a garage door was left open, a door was left unlocked, or a window was left open.

The Dublin Division of Police is encouraging residents to consider taking some extra precautions to reduce your chances of becoming a victim of burglary:

1. Make sure you close and secure your garage doors when you are not home as well as in the evening and over night.

2. Lock your doors and windows when you are not home. If you have a screen door that can be locked, lock it too.

3. If you have a residential alarm system, please turn it on when you are not at home.

4. If you have an residential alarm system, consider posting signs in a highly visible exterior location that you have an alarm system.

5. Consider leaving a television on with the audio turned up when you are not home.

6. Consider using interior lights on timers.

7. Consider leaving exterior lights on at night.

8. Do not leave garage door openers visible in your vehicle if it is parked outside of your residence in the driveway or on the street.

9. Call the police IMMEDIATELY if you witness a crime or something suspicious.

10. Be a good neighbor and keep an eye out for one another. You know your neighborhood the best.

Only by working together will we continue to make Dublin a safe place to live, work, and visit.
