Heinz von Eckartsberg Named Interim Chief of Police

Dublin City Manager Terry Foegler named Police Lieutenant Heinz von Eckartsberg Interim Chief of Police. The announcement was made at the Monday, Aug. 9 Dublin City Council Meeting. Von Eckartsberg will replace Chief of Police Mike Epperson who accepted a position as City Manager of New Bern, North Carolina in July.

“Heinz brings 27 years of service in Dublin to this interim role, including 13 years as a lieutenant,” Foegler said. “I’ve been impressed with Heinz’s record with the City and ask you to join me in welcoming him into this new leadership role.”

Von Eckartsberg was hired by the City of Dublin as a police officer in February, 1983. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant in January, 1985 and to the rank of lieutenant in April, 1997. During his tenure at the Dublin Division of Police, von Eckartsberg has served as the Operations Bureau Commander and is currently serving as the Support Services Bureau Commander which oversees the Community Education Unit, Detective Bureau and Special Events.

Von Eckartsberg will begin as Interim Chief of Police on Aug. 21.
