America’s Best Value Inn & Suites in Dublin is ordered to close
(DUBLIN, Ohio) – June 29, 2011- An agreement was reached in court yesterday between the City of Dublin and America’s Best Value Inn & Suites of 6364 Frantz Rd. to permanently close the hotel effective 9 p.m. Sunday, July 3.
The Ohio State Fire Marshall’s Office, Franklin Co. Board of Health, City of Dublin’s Division of Building Standards and Code Enforcement Office inspected America’s Best Value Inn & Suites on Nov. 4, 2010 and May 12. Each agency found various violations during the inspections.
“The City cares about the safety of our residents and corporate citizens as well as those visiting our community,” said City Manager Marsha Grigsby. “Safety is our number one priority and we also want to provide a good experience for our visitors.”
Felonious conduct has taken place at the property, including arrests for burglary/breaking & entering, receipt of stolen property, aggravated assault, forcible rape, disorderly conduct, auto vehicle theft, aggravated menacing, criminal damaging and domestic violence/menacing.
According to the Division of Police, between Jan. 1, 2009 and May 18, 2011, there were 21 different people arrested/charged at the property, 34 offense/incident reports taken and 193 calls for service to the property.
After the past inspection on May 12, the property revealed the following:
- Open/exposed junction boxes and wiring splices
- Inoperable/missing smoke detector in numerous guest rooms
- Unauthorized use of multi-plug adapters in guest rooms
- Use of unapproved cooking appliances in numerous guest rooms
- Stained and dirty linens, bedding, mattresses and box springs
- Widespread evidence of bed bugs, roaches and rodents
- Widespread mold damage
- Soiled walls, ceilings and carpets
- Widespread water damage
- Worn, dirty or torn carpeting
- Broken windows
- Peeling/chipped paint
- Accumulation of tree branches
- Guest rooms being used in a non-transient nature for business, storage and assembly purposes
