Dublin Police aim to finish strong in goal to reduce traffic crashes

(DUBLIN, Ohio)-The Dublin Division of Police set their benchmark this year to reduce traffic crashes occurring in the City below the 2010 total.

In 2010, Dublin drivers were involved in 887 traffic crashes and as of Nov. 18, the police have reported 662 crashes, which is a 13 percent decrease from the same time period a year ago.

“We want to have high visibility in the areas where crashes are occurring to be a deterrent for crash causing behaviors, enforce traffic laws and educate drivers about traffic safety,” said Lt. John DeJarnette, operations bureau commander. “The division also is partnering with the Ohio Department of Public Safety who will provide reimbursement as part of this campaign.”

In order to reach their target, the department will have additional officers on roadways during the remainder of November and December, focusing in areas where the majority of crashes occur, such as U.S. 33, I-270 and Riverside Dr. Officers will focus on crash-causing violations, such as speeding, following too closely, OVI and distracted driving.
