The Dublin Division of Police have filed six burglary reports at residences in the City since May 2, 2012. Five of these burglaries have occurred at apartments/condos. Four of the six reports were daytime burglaries. The other two burglary reports had extended time ranges, but it is likely that these occurred during daytime hours.

Five of the six reports showed that no visible force was used to enter the dwelling. The call to Craigston Court (non-apartment or condo) involved a smashed rear first floor window. In at least two of the five calls, the rear sliding glass door was found open or unsecured even though the victims were confident that these doors were locked and secured when they left. The officers have mentioned the possibility of “lock bumping” as a method of gaining access.

Items such as a hot water heater, air conditioner, copper pipe, cash, checkbook, laptop computer, jewelry, electronics, laundry baskets, TV, iPod, and duffel bag have been the target.

Residents and complex employees are encouraged to keep an extra eye and ear out for suspicious and/or unusual activity. Residents are reminded to keep their doors and windows closed and locked when they leave. If you witness a crime or something suspicious, please immediately contact the Dublin Police at 614.889.1112.

It is open to the public and will be held rain or shine.

“Honoring officers is a tradition which goes back to the beginnings of our history in law enforcement,” said Chief Heinz von Eckartsberg. “Dublin believes it is important as members of our profession and that the community takes time to honor the personal sacrifices these officers have made.”

The survivor remarks will be given this year by Dianne Ratliff, daughter of Michael Blankenship, who was a police officer at The Ohio State University Police Department.

Officer Michael Blankenship was shot and killed on February 10, 1997 after he and another officer responded to a suspicious person call at the Wexner Center for the Arts at Ohio State. The killer was found dead after committing suicide.

The service is held in conjunction with National Police Memorial Week, established in 1962 when President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation dedicating one week to law enforcement officers.

The Advanced Law Enforcement Accreditation with Excellence Award reflects the agency’s leadership in development and implementation of contemporary policies and procedures, enhancing the professional standing of public safety, and the review and analysis of organizational data for the purpose of public safety service improvement. Police continually uses the standards provided by CALEA to enhance public safety services for the City.

In October 2011, assessors from CALEA spent four days conducting interviews with the Dublin community and police staff. The assessors also spent hours reviewing police policies and procedures. After this thorough review of the agency, the assessors recommended this distinction.
