Dublin Police offers tips for enjoying a safe holiday season
Taking a few, simple proactive steps can help you enjoy a happy and safe holiday season this year.
Dublin Police advises residents to remove valuables from unattended vehicles and to make sure vehicles are locked at all times. Leaving items such as an iPod or a GPS device is an open invitation for someone to break into your car and steal them.
We also advise residents to lock all window and doors in their homes, even the door between the garage and the rest of the home. If your home has a security system, make sure to activate it.
If you plan to be away for an extended period, put a hold on mail and paper delivery and let Dublin Police know when you will be away. We offer a free House Watch program where officers do periodic checks on your home. Call 614-410-4800 for more information.
If you go out of town:
-
Have a neighbor watch your home and pick up newspapers and mail.
-
Call the Division of Police, at 614-410-4800 or sign up online to take advantage of House Watch, a service provided to Dublin residents whereby patrol officers will periodically check your residence for signs of criminal activity while you are away.
-
Get an automatic timer for your lights, radio and/or television to make it appear as if someone is home.
-
Arrange for snow removal from your driveway and sidewalks as needed.
