Jr. Lifeguard Training

Designed to prepare 11- to 14-year olds to take Red Cross Lifeguarding certification programs and for future work as lifeguards. The Jr. Lifesaving program helps participants build a foundation of knowledge, attitudes, and skills needed to be responsible lifeguards. The five main areas of this certification are: prevention, fitness, response, leadership and professionalism. Each participant receives a participant manual, whistle, and an American Red Cross Guard Start Certificate.

Prerequisites:

  1. Must be between 11 and 14 years old.

  2. Swimming ability equivalent to the DCRC Intermediate level (American Red Cross: Level 5) is required in order to participate in this course.

  3. Participants must be able to perform front crawl, breaststroke, treading water and feel comfortable in the deep end.
