Lifeguarding Training Course Top 10 Things You Need to Know

1. Items that you are responsible for bringing with you to class are:

  • Swim suit, towel, goggles

  • A one piece suit is highly recommended for all women taking the Lifeguarding Course

  • Lunch or snack (if class is scheduled for 5 hours or more)

2. All participants must attend all sessions of the class, and be on time. Failure to attend the entire class will result in a failing grade and no refund. If you cannot attend all sessions please call 614-410-4567 at least 7 business days before the start of your class to get transferred to another class.

3. Please confirm the location of your class and determine the appropriate route to the pool. Directions to the Dublin Community Recreation Center can be found on the City of Dublin website (www.dublin.oh.us) or call 614-410-4550.

4. Do not be late. Part of being a professional American Red Cross Lifeguard is being on time. Being late to any of the sessions could result in termination from the class and forfeiture of fees.

5. The Dublin Community Recreation Center is not responsible for any lost or stolen items. We suggest leaving valuables (cell phone, palm pilot, wallet, etc.) at home or in the trunk of your car.

6. All Cell phones must be turned off during class.

7. Please respect the facility. Please go out of your way to leave the facility how you found it. (Locker rooms, pool deck, classroom, etc.)

8. Refund Policy: Cancellations: A cancellation request form must be submitted to the front desk of the DCRC at least 7 business days prior to the first day of the class, for a refund of fees paid less a $10 administrative fee. No Refunds are made after this time.

9. Lifeguard training participants must meet these prerequisites:

  • Minimum age of 15 by last day of class (proof of age must be brought to the first class).

    • Swim 300 yards continuously, using these strokes in the following order:

    • 100 yards front crawl, using rhythmic breathing and a stabilizing, propellant kick

    • 100 yards breaststroke

    • 100 yards front crawl and/or breaststroke (the last 100 hundred yards may be a combination of front crawl and breast stroke)A timed 20 yards swim, surface-dive to a depth of 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, and return to the starting point in 1 minute and 40 seconds

10. Participants must pass the Entire Pre-skills test in order to continue the course!

American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Course

This course teaches instructor candidates the necessary skills to teach Lifeguard Training, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, Oxygen Administration, Bloodborne Pathogens, and the Automated External Defibrillation courses.

Prerequisites:


1. 17 years of age on or before the final scheduled class (proof of age must be provided at the first class).
2. Complete the written pre-test with a minimum score of 80% or better.
3. Successfully complete all CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid and Water Rescue skills.
5. Must bring lifeguard participant manual and pocket mask to class

To register online, patrons must either be current or past passholders or have taken DCRC classes in the past. Those people should be in the DCRC's registration software database and will be able to register online.

Registrants will need to input their User Name, which is your home phone number including area code and Password, your last name. People who have never been passholders or taken classes can have their names included in the registration database by stopping at the DCRC front desk during business hours. A current utility bill is required as proof of residency.

A Visa or MasterCard is required for billing and to confirm registration of classes. City of Dublin software ensures the security of credit card numbers.
