Nando's Dog Park in Darree Fields Park
After many barks, the City of Dublin has opened Nando’s Dog Park in Darree Fields Park.
The park is named for Nando, the City’s first Police Canine Unit. Nando served the City with dedication and spirit, both as a four-legged officer and as a liaison to Dublin children.
“We have been getting resident requests for the dog park for years. Dublin residents wanted a place to take their four-legged friends to enjoy the park,” says Landscape Architect Laura Karagory.
The dog park offers both a small and large dog area for dogs to run, play and roam. The total space is two acres and the large breed area has a walking area for owners. In addition, there are benches, a picnic table and trash cans. The City has also designed a box where residents can donate plastic grocery store bags for reuse in pet waste removal operations.
When owners bring their dogs to the park, they are asked to have dog park etiquette. Cleaning up any of their pet waste and keeping their dogs on leashes until inside the gate of the dog park are just a few rules of etiquette.
“The dog park compliments our Community Plan’s goal of creating where residents can socialize strengthening community bonds. Dog parks are one of the hottest trends in the park industry,” says Karagory. “The benefits include better socialized dogs, dedicated puppy play date space, enhanced exercise experiences for apartment dwelling canines and opportunities for dog owners to develop new friendships.”
