Dublin Parks Full of Life in Winter

Winter activities in Dublin's parks include more than ice skating and sledding. Consider a brisk winter walk through a park along the Scioto River where you might be lucky enough to see a Hooded Merganser.
Scenes along the Scioto River
Bald Eagles are most often seen along the Scioto River when the water is frozen north of the O'Shaughnessy Dam. Adult eagles are completely brown with only a white head and tail. Juvenile eagles are entirely brown. Bald Eagles are the largest birds flying in Dublin's winter skies with wing spans of 7-8 feet. Open waters south of the dam provide protection and food for ducks such as Hooded Mergansers, Common Goldeneyes and Buffleheads. Great Blue Heron are also common as they too are attracted to open water.
Dublin Springs (18) , Kiwanis Riverway Park (32), Scioto Park (42), Donegal Cliffs Park (17) and Amberleigh Park (2) offer unique glimpses of Ohio wildlife and are excellent examples of the importance of preserving natural habitats in our communities.
