Refuse Bin and Recycling Container Ordinance

Dublin City Council recently passed a new refuse bin and recycling container ordinance that will go into effect September 13, 2010.

EvergreensFor the sanitary health and safety of city residents, and for the quality aesthetics highly valued by Dublin residents, the city first and foremost has always encouraged residents to store their trash and recycling bin containers inside garages or storage facilities.

The new ordinance addresses situations where inside garage storage is not possible. Residents must be in compliance with the new ordinance that mandates 100 percent natural year-round opacity screening for outside storage of bins and containers as a last resort alternative, effective September 13, 2010. Residential waste and recycling containers must be placed on the side or back of the residence shielded from the view of any adjoining property’s occupants and any street by natural landscaping.

Plants used for screening refuse containers should be columnar or pyramidal evergreens, planted in such a manner that individual plants will be touching/growing into each other within two years.  Some species/varieties that may be used to meet the requirements include the following:

  • Emerald Green Arborvitae

  • Dark Green Arborvitae

  • Blue Arrow Juniper

  • Gray Gleam Juniper

  • Medora Juniper

  • Moonglow Juniper

  • Prairie Pillar Juniper

  • Slender Hinoki False Cypress

  • Spartan Juniper

  • Yellow Ribbon Arborvitae

Other plant species may be used as long as they meet the ordinance screening requirements. Please contact City Code Enforcement at 614-410-4647.
